Yeah i used to do the same thing blackwinged. Now mainly with mp3s i just get stuff from friends randomly. If i had more time would i hunt mp3s like i used to? im not sure... i always buyed what i enjoyed, infact i still have a list im halfway done with titles i need to own. Time and patience :) the problem is we make up like 5% of the indie market nowadays i think.

I download MP3's all the time. However if I come across something I really adore, I buy it. It's as simple as that. I recently downloaded everything from Puissance and have been enjoying it greatly. Sure I could just burn it all, but I'd much sooner own the actual CDs. Additionally a lot of the stuff I download I stick in my online radio anyway so that helps the artists out big time I think. Or hope so at least.

I think it was EFA it was a fucking huge company no reason they should of fell. Another problem ive seen is the bigger labels to offset "downloading" is to charge distros like me who want to help twice as much as they used to. I'm not naming label names but one wanted to charge me basically 9 dollars a fucking cd. I'm not gonna do it man, im in this for the music not the money and charging 15 dollars a cd to make ends meet isnt helping people get good music at a good price it just bitters fans to d/l instead. On top of this its a huge investment to get like 10 copies of one cd. Especially when I'd rather put out good music than just distribute other peoples stuff.

As long as i work with artists and fans who dont mind low prices, and the idea of putting out more cds instead of trying to market one "hit album" then i think everything should be ok here.

I don't doubt for a second that filesharing had a part of it. My thoughts on this is that I've always thought that listeners of more "obscure" and underground type music are more lojal than f.ex. fans of major mainstream acts. But the continous downfall of independent labels and distros of varying size has really shot that theory to hell.

Was it EFA in Europe you meant Joseph?

I love how people always say "mp3s help sales man, blah blah blah" this was a huge distribution/label that just went under. Perhaps its not totally because of mp3s (fucking ws prices were insanely high) but this isnt the first "big indie" label to fall. If i were to run vendlus like a "real" business i can't even fathom how it would be possible. There was this one huge distro that went under recently it even carried ipecac's stuff in europe. Also this is sorta old news but that "dutch east" (i think thats the name) distro went under as well but that was mainly bad business if i remember correctly.

edit: im just seeing alot of this lately, im not blaming mp3s entirely but i think its a double edged sword that after some period of time we are seeings it ability to damage things.

I guess we now know what Mr. Wakeford has decided to do:
http://p214.ezboard.com/fthetursadiscussionboardsfrm4.showMessage?topicID=41.topic

The official webpage of Chris and Cosey also announces new distribution plans, but they haven't actually revealed who's doing it yet. That's what I have found out so far of what the remaining WS bands are doing at least.

There was a fallout between Douglas P and WS some years ago. His anger and resentment towards this company is probably unsurpassed in music history, and is well documented on the album "All pigs must die".

It is reported that he put some kind of curse on them.

Not much research on the web is required before you will run into information regarding this. http://www.thermconduct.net/di6ia is a webpage that have alot of DIJ interviews collected, try there for starters.

Edit: the page seems to be down :-//
Ahhh okay. Now that you mention that I remember reading something about that awhile back.
